The European Union (EU) recently launched a Study in Europe Fair in Kano, Nigeria, aimed at connecting Nigerian students with higher education opportunities in Europe.

This free online event serves as a platform for students to explore academic programmes, scholarships, and research opportunities in European institutions.

The fair is part of a broader initiative led by the EU Delegation in Nigeria, with participation from various EU member states.

The EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Gautier Mignot, highlighted the fair’s objectives, including promoting European higher education, enhancing equitable access to quality education, especially for girls, and strengthening EU-Nigeria relations.

Mr. Mignot emphasised the EU’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s growth and stability, promoting democracy, rule of law, and multilateralism.

He also spoke about the benefits of the Erasmus Scholarship programme, noting that over 500 Nigerian students, researchers, and staff have participated in mobility programs to Europe. Additionally, Nigerian students have received significant scholarships through Erasmus Mundus and EU-ECOWAS initiatives focused on renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The Kano State Government expressed strong support for the event, with Hadi Yahya, the state’s representative, praising the EU’s efforts to improve bilateral educational relations.

Nigerian students interviewed at the event expressed enthusiasm, viewing it as a valuable opportunity to further their education internationally.
