The 1:0 victory against Italy on Thursday has gained Spain a place in the knockout stages of the Euro 2024

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma kept his side in the game during the first half, tipping Pedri’s header over and denying Alvaro Morata from a tight angle before producing a brilliant fingertip save from Fabian Ruiz’s long-range effort.

However, A 55th-minute own goal by Riccardo Calafiori handed a win to Spain in the first clash of this European Championship.

Spain, the three-times winners of this championship dominated the Group B game at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, with 16-year-old winger Lamine Yamal further enhancing his reputation as one of soccer’s most exciting young stars with an outstanding performance.

The win means Spain sit top of the Group on six points to qualify to the next round while Italy will be hoping for a positive result against Croatia in their final game.
