Ex Commissioner vows APC Presidential Candidate Will End Medical Tourism
Luqmon Balogun, Lagos
The Former Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Leke Pitan has assured that the All Progressives Congress flagbearer for the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Bola Tinubu will end medical tourism in the country if given the mandate.
Mr. Pitan gave this assurance during a virtual conference to Xray the achievements and legacies of eight years of the administration of Bola Tinubu as a Governor in Lagos.
He said Tinubu already has the master plan to change the narrative in the health sector by upgrading leading health institutions to world-class standards.
According to him, rather than medical personnel leaving Nigeria in droves for greener pastures abroad, Tinubu plans constant exchange programmes with countries with high medical ratings to help improve the skills of Nigerians for improved service delivery.
“During his reign in Lagos, Tinubu had Tooth surgery at Randle General Hospital, Surulere and so, the health sector under him was rated among the best in the country.”
Under the watch of Tinubu, other states from the federation frequently visited Lagos to learn about the success behind policies executed including, Jigi Bola, (Boka eyeglasses) corrective surgery, Lagos State Ambulance Bus Services, LASAMBUS, community health care, Burnt Unit and Health Insurance scheme and many others.” he said
Dr. Pitan however promised that if Tinubu is elected, come 2023, priority attention would be accorded to medical personnel in terms of welfare to stem the tide of brain drain affecting the country.
