Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, the former Governor of Gombe State, has commended the people of Gombe State for maintaining stability and peace in the state, despite the difficult times Nigerians are facing.

Speaking with journalists after a grand welcome by members and executives of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and residents of Gombe State, after being away for about three years, Dr. Dankwambo commended the people of the state for maintaining peace and hospitality.

He thanked them for welcoming him to Gombe with cheering faces, after three years being away.

“Things are very difficult, people are timid, they are intimidated, and afraid, but a Gombe person is still hopeful. And I do hope that they continue to keep and maintain that hope in the next coming month, next year, to the time that God will keep us alive,” said Dr. Dankwambo.

As to whether he has plans for contesting for any position in the 2023 elections, Dr. Dankwambo said he would consult relevant stakeholders to know if the people would want him to vie for any position.

He said he was ever prepared to make any sacrifice required of him, since his aspiration in 2019 was to become the President of Nigeria, which did not happen.

Dr. Dankwambo said he would use the few days of coming to Gombe to assess progress made in the state, such as the security, human progress, improvement in poverty, improvement in human indicator factor, among others.

He said he would monitor the situation in Gombe State and know how to assess any given situation.

Speaking with party members at the PDP Secretariat, Dr. Dankwambo said he brought greeting from the National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, who had asked him to encourage them to be prepared to receive party leaders, who had left the party for a while.

The former Governor of Gombe State said after he finished his two terms in office and left in 2019, he had been consulting for the World Bank and serving as a lecturer at three universities in Nigeria, a job he loves so much.

“I am lecturing at the University of Benin, Igbinedion University and Belt University,” said Dr. Dankwambo.
