By Ismail Umar, Sokoto

The former Minister of Transportation, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman, has appeared before the Sokoto State Commission of Inquiry over alleged participation in activities of former governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s administration.

The Minister was cross-examined by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Commission counsels, Barrister Nuhu Adamu and Barrister Amanzi Amanzi respectively.

The witness who was Director General PDP campaign council of the gubernatorial candidate of the party in 2023, told the commission that he was not allocated any vehicle or properties from the former Tambuwal administration and previous state governments.

The witness who briefed Journalists alongside panel proceedings described his summon as a political vendetta and intimidating.

“Indeed very sad, I have served this country at the highest level especially at the executive council of the federation as I ran one of the biggest ministries in this country and that is the ministry of transportation, I have not been found wanting in any way by any anti-corrupt agency.

“Well for me to be invited is political vendetta, otherwise I did not work for Sokoto State Government, I did not hold any government position in the previous administrations of Bafarawa, Wamakko and Tambuwal.

“In 2019 I was Director General Campaign Council of former President Buhari and the incumbent Governor Aliyu.

“The present Governor during the 2019 campaign allocated two Toyota Land cruisers to me but I rejected them because I have my vehicles which I used.

“In 2023 I was the Director General Campaign Council of the People’s Democratic Party Governorship candidate, Malam Saidu Umar and no one donated any Prado Suv to me, I used my vehicle to execute my operations,” he noted.

He challenged any officials or arms of government to come up with evidence and explain to the commission on how the vehicle was allocated to him.

He urged the commission to ensure they implement their assignment honourably and they should know that not just the people of the state, “but God is watching over them and whatever they do they will account for it”.

The former Minister noted that the state government instead of concentrating on development activities, is always intimidating people, “they are showing the way and 2027 is approaching we will flush them out and revisit what they have done.”

Presiding over the commission proceedings Chairman of the commission, Justice Mu’azu Pindiga said the former minister was invited as a witness to the panel to testify on the panel memo 077.

Justice Pindiga thanked Mr Suleiman for honouring the commission’s invitation and wished him all the best in his endeavors.

It could be recalled that the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration inaugurated the Commission of Inquiry to investigate the donations, sales and auctioning of Tambuwal PDP-led administration from 2015 to 2023.
