Ex-Nigerian President Commends Kwara State For New Squash Court

Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has praised the Kwara State government under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for the construction of a state-of-the-art squash court in the State.

Obasanjo made this remarks during the closing ceremony of the 6th edition of the Olusegun Obasanjo National Squash Tournament held in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He expressed his deep appreciation for Governor Abdulrazaq’s commitment to sports development, particularly in promoting squash.

The former President described the newly constructed squash court in Kwara State as being of international standard.

Obasanjo urged other state governors to take a cue from Kwara State by investing in the development of sports infrastructure to nurture young talents across the country.

The former president also congratulated the Kwara State team for their outstanding performance in the tournament, highlighting their dominance across various categories.

The State clinched Gold in the Senior Women’s category by Rofiat Abdulazeez, Gold in the U-16 Female category by Haisat Abdulhakeem and Silver in the U-16 Male category by Shuaib Giwa.

Also, Kwara claimed a bronze in the Senior Women’s category by Isaac Blessing, as well as in the U-16 Female category by Goodness Nnanna and Loveth Balogun.

The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Bolakale Mogaji, who led the Kwara contingent to Abeokuta, expressed his gratitude to Chief Obasanjo for his kind words.

He promised to convey the former president’s message to Governor AbdulRazaq.

Mogaji also commended the dedication of the Kwara State squash coaches, management and players, urging them to continue their efforts in raising the state’s profile in sports.

Gold medalist Rofiat Abdulazeez, who was among the tournament’s top performers, expressed her heartfelt thanks to the former president for his ongoing support of the sport through this tournament. She also expressed her gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for his unwavering support of squash and sports in general within the state.

Abdulazeez also applauded the efforts of the Kwara State Sports Commission, its management and the squash coaches for their continuous support and guidance.
