Mr Dalyop Fom, the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly, has donated 1,000 bags of 25kg fertiliser to farmers across the 67 hamlets of Kuru District, Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

Presenting the fertilizer to the beneficiaries on Wednesday in Kuru, Fom said that the gesture was to boost agricultural activities and ensure better yield.

He added that the gesture was also to complement the agricultural drive of the Gov. Caleb Mutfwang-led administration toward addressing food insecurity in the state.

“My people are predominantly farmers, and are struggling to buy fertiliser, so I decided to support some these farmers in my little way.

”At the moment, I’m not occupying any political position, but I know how that times are hard and because God has been gracious and merciful to me, I deem it fit to extend same to others, particularly those in my immediate community.

”I know exactly how it feels to be desperately in need; this is my major motivation for all the philanthropic work I have done all these years.

”The fertiliser is not just for my party members, but for those who actually need it; we have put in place an all-inclusive sharing formula to ensure that it get to those who really need it,” he said.

Speaking, Mr Peter Vwang-Dung, the Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Jos South, commended the former lawmaker for the gesture.

He explained that the gesture, which came at the time of serious economic hardship, would go a long way to alleviate the suffering of the beneficiaries in accessing the commodity.

Vwang-Dung, however, warned the beneficiaries not to sell the fertiliser but put it into good use.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Bulus Kwis, thanked the donor for the kind gesture and promised to use it to improve their yields.

”This support is timely because have been grappling with the high cost of fertiliser in the market which most of us cannot afford,”he said.
