As Edo State officially kick-starts the 2025 working year in full fledge, Sabina Chikere made a historic return to the Edo State Sports Commission, resuming her role as Executive Director.
Chikere was on the 18th of December, 2024, appointed by the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to steer the Operational and Sports Development affairs of the state.
As the former Permanent Secretary of the commission, Chikere brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table. Her appointment as Executive Director makes her second-in-command to the Executive Chairman, Desmond Enabulele.
Enabulele warmly welcomed Chikere back to the commission and although her office is still being prepared, he assured that the facilities’ department is working out a comfortable and well-equipped space for her.
The new office will have all the necessary amenities, reflecting her important role in overseeing Operations and Sports Development as stipulated by the Commission’s Act and in line with world’s best practices.
Chikere’s impressive track record speaks for itself. As General Coordinator and Permanent Secretary of Sports under former Governor Godwin Obaseki, Chikere drove significant development and achieved numerous successes.
Her no-nonsense approach and dedication to excellence have earned her the nickname, “The Working One.” With her expertise and experience, Chikere is expected to play a pivotal role in revitalizing the nosediving sports in the state.
The commission’s board members, including Edo North representative, Frank Ilaboya; Edo South representative, Baldwin Bazuaye; and Edo Central representative, Odianose Anthony Ikuenobe, Esq., are expected to provide their full support to Chikere and Enabulele.
With this strong team in place, the Edo State Sports Commission is poised for a bright and successful future.
