Expert tasks auditors on effective accountability

The former acting Auditor General of the Federation, Mr Ismail Adeleye, has charged Adamawa state local government Auditor Generals and internal auditors on standard based practice.

 

Mr Adeleye made the call at the end of a two-day engagement organized by United State Agency International Development (USAID), in Yola, the Adamawa State Capital.

 

Adeleye who is the resource person at the event said operating standard based practice on the law for accountability in public resources management would help improve good governance, accountability, transparency and effectiveness in the state.

 

“As Auditors, whatever you have learned put it in to practice, when you have done so, finances in public administration in this state will not be the same again”, he said.

 

Maryam Dikko, USAID’s Team Lead who commended the resources person and the participants for their active participation said the workshop would help them improve on their performance.

 

She further said, the objective of the engagement is to enhance capacity of participants to promote accountability in public resource management in the state.

 

USAID’s State2State is implementing this activity to provide a platform for interaction and exchange to improve coordination between State Auditor General and Auditor General in Local Government.

 

In his remarks, Alhaji Ahmed, Adamawa State Auditor General commended USAID for the training workshop saying that the training is timely and would help them improve on their duties.

 

Participants were drawn from eight Local Government Areas of the state as well as the State House of Assembly, Secretaries of Public Account Committee, Civil Society Organizations and Priority Sector Committees on education, health, water resources and environment.
