Following the expulsion of the Senator representing Gombe Central Senatorial District, Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, from the All Progressives Congress in Gombe State, his Special Assistant, Mr. Saidu Kumo, has questioned the legality of the former governor’s expulsion.
Speaking with journalists in Gombe, Kumo, who is a lawyer, said nothing would be said on Goje’s side, because the matter was in court, even before the Kashere Ward Executives made the pronouncement of Goje’s expulsion from the party.
“There was a court order and the party at ward level were served on the 16th and 17th April, 2023 to stay in order for the court to hear the complaints of the respondent at the Federal High Court Abuja but they went ahead to do the purported act,” Mr. Kumo said.
As a lawyer, Kumo said he had been trained not to comment on any case that is in the court of law, “because we are operating constitutional democracy in Nigeria. You can’t do anything that contradicts the power of the court and think you will succeed.”
On the legality of the expulsion, Mr. Kumo said the court would determine it.
“What we know is that Senator Goje is a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and he is the Senator-Elect for Gombe Central Senatorial District under the APC,” Kumo said.
