Falconets thrash CAR 7-0 In FIFA U-20 Qualifier
The Falconets of Nigeria thrashed the Wild Beasts of Central African Republic (CAR) 7-0 in the first leg of their FIFA U-20 women’s World Cup qualifier at the Stade Japoma de Douala in Cameroon.
Goals by Mercy Idoko, Esther Onyenezide, Deborah Abiodun, Taiwo Lawal, Yena Adoo ensured that the two-time runners-up of the championship will have little to play for in the return leg scheduled for October 6 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
Idoko scored the first goal with a brilliant finish to put Nigeria ahead. The Falconets made it 2-0 in the third minute from the penalty spot converted by Idoko. Esther Onyenezide made 3-0 in the 34th minute as Nigeria showed their superiority over the Central African Republic ladies under the Douala sun.
The Falconets again scored in the 44 minute through Joy Jerry to make it 4-0 before the end of the first half.
The second half began with Deborah Abiodun increasing the tally for the Nigerian side in the 78th minute. The Falconets again scored in the 83rd minute through Taiwo Lawal.
Yena Adoo added another goal a minute in extra time to complete the demolition of the hosts to make the return leg in Lagos a mere formality.
