The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has alerted the general public to be weary of fraudulent appointment letters being circulated by imposters falsely claiming to offer employment with the Organization.
The disclaimer was contained in a media release by the Communications Specialist, FAO Nigeria, David Tsokar.
According to the release, recent reports indicates that unsuspecting individuals have received fake appointment letters for the position of “Administrative Assistant NO-B” purporting to be issued by FAO Nigeria.
FAO says that no such position exists under the NO-B cadre within FAO Nigeria’s organizational structure.

Investigations further revealed that the individuals who received these letters neither applied for the role nor participated in any recruitment process.
Additionally, the fraudulent messages originated from unauthorized email addresses ending in “.com”—a clear deviation from FAO’s official domain, which ends in “.org.”
FAO strongly reaffirms that all employment with the Organization follows a transparent and rigorous process, which includes:
• Official vacancy announcements published on the FAO careers portal and trusted platforms;
• Formal application procedures via the official FAO recruitment system;
• Standard interview protocols and verifiable communication from FAO personnel only through recognized channels.
In response to this situation, FAO Nigeria has:
• Issued public disclaimers through our official website and social media accounts;
• Reported fraudulent profiles and pages to platform administrators for takedown;
• Responded directly to individuals who have contacted our staff seeking verification.
The public is hereby advised to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with unsolicited job offers or messages not originating from official FAO channels and if in doubt, please consult verified platforms or contact the FAO Nigeria office directly.
The FAO Nigeria Country Office remains committed to transparency, accountability, and protecting the integrity of our recruitment processes.
