The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, announced that the FCT Administration is providing youths with essential Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills for sustainable development.

Wike made this statement during the inauguration of a five-day training program for 300 youths on various ICT skills in Abuja on Tuesday.

The free training, organized in collaboration with the Nigeria in Diaspora Organisation Americas (NIDO-Americas) as part of the NIDO Worldwide Week celebrations, will cover areas such as artificial intelligence, digital marketing, cyber security, digital forensics, and mobile application development.

Representing Wike, Alhaji Ibrahim Aminu, Mandate Secretary of the Social Development Secretariat, FCTA, praised NIDO-Americas for their dedication to education, growth, and partnership.

He highlighted the significance of creating a platform for engagement and knowledge exchange between the diaspora community and FCT youths.

He emphasized the diaspora community’s crucial role in Nigeria’s development by contributing their knowledge, skills, experiences, and financial resources, which are invaluable to the country’s economy and growth.

“The contributions of the Nigerian Diaspora span various fields, including healthcare, technology, education, and entrepreneurship, significantly impacting lives back home,” he said.

“We must harness this professionalism, expertise, and resources to accelerate development in Nigeria, particularly in the FCT.”

He urged the diaspora community to invest in critical areas such as infrastructure, transportation, housing, healthcare, and renewable energy, stressing that their insights, expertise, and financial contributions are vital for enhancing the basic infrastructure and overall quality of life in Abuja.

Earlier, Dr. Ezekiel Macham, Chairman of the America Diasporas Committee, explained that the NIDO Diaspora Worldwide Week aimed to give back to society. Although 500 youths registered for the training, only 300 were selected to participate.
