Residents of Satellite Towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are set for what officials describe as unprecedented economic and infrastructural transformation, as the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, unveiled details of an ambitious road development drive across key communities.
The Minister gave the hint while answering questions from Journalists after ongoing projects inspection tour in Karu, Karshi, Bwari- Kubwa within the satellite towns of the nation’s capital on Friday.
Wike said the initiative was part of a presidential directive to build a strategic and resilient road network that extends beyond Abuja city centre to underserved communities.
“It’s actually a directive from the President that we develop a strategic and resilient road network across the Federal Capital Territory,” Wike said.
According to him, the renewed focus on satellite towns is aimed at correcting years of infrastructure imbalance and unlocking economic opportunities in fast-growing communities.

One of the centrepiece of the initiative is the long-delayed Apo–Karshi Road, a critical link that had stalled for years before the current administration intervened.
Wike disclosed that the contract was rescinded and re-awarded to SCC Construction Company to accelerate delivery.
“Because of the importance of that road, we felt we couldn’t wait any longer for progress. The contract was rescinded and re-awarded, and they have begun work in earnest,” he stated.
He expressed satisfaction with the reconstruction of roads in Karu handled by indigenous contractor, Abdul Val Construction Company, describing the quality of work as commendable.
Another major infrastructure boost is the Bwari–Kubwa Road, a 16–17 kilometre stretch expected to significantly ease traffic flow and stimulate commerce along the axis.
“It’s a critical structural development that will boost economic activity in communities between Bwari and Kubwa,” the minister said.

Wike revealed that the Bwari–Kubwa Road is scheduled for completion by May 3, while other key infrastructure projects across the Satellite Towns are expected to be delivered before the end of the year.
He also directed the National Commission for Civic Awareness to ensure landscaping and environmental improvements in Karshi and adjoining communities are completed within the year, stressing that development must be holistic.
Highlighting the broader impact, the minister noted that improved road infrastructure would enhance mobility, attract investment, raise property values and improve overall quality of life for residents.
“People who have never experienced proper road infrastructure before are now seeing real change,” Wike said,
He added that the projects align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
With multiple road networks under construction simultaneously, the FCT Administration says the focus on Satellite Towns signals a shift toward inclusive development aimed at spreading growth beyond the capital’s city centre.
