FCT Minister Nyesom Wike during a recent inspection of the Apo-Karshi road project reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to completing the 13-kilometer road, originally awarded in 2011.

He emphasised that the project aims to alleviate the hardships faced by residents and boost economic activity in the area.

Minister noted that over 86percent of the contract sum has been paid, with only N3 billion remaining. He acknowledged the delays in project execution due to procurement issues but stated that these have now been resolved, and the contractor has been mobilised.

The expected completion date has been pushed to April 2025, although Minister expressed concerns about this timeline and urged the contractor to expedite progress.

He also discussed the implications of canceling contracts, highlighting the financial and legal complications involved. Minister emphasised the importance of the project, stating he would monitor its progress closely and ensure that funds are released as needed, contingent on satisfactory work.

Additionally, he announced plans for the rehabilitation of the Karshi to Nyanya road, which is expected to be completed within eight months following a directive from President Bola Tinubu due to the road’s poor condition.

The project will include the installation of streetlights, addressing both safety and accessibility concerns for the numerous government offices located along the route.
