FCT State Minister orders clean up of Satellite Towns

Worried by the poor Environmental condition of neighbourhoods across the six Area Councils of Abuja, the Minister of State in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Dr.Tijjani Ramatu Aliyu has ordered for the comprehensive cleaning of all satellite towns in the nation’s capital.
The Minister who gave the order in Abuja, said it is with immediate effect under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of the Satellite Development Department (STDD), so as to swiftly ensure the restoration of the environment for the safety of the residents, as well as evolving environmentally friendly communities.
She noted that the situation of waste generation in the FCT has an exponential trend because of the influx of Nigerians into the Capital Territory, peoples’ attitude, lifestyle, and behaviours towards their environment.
It was however gathered that the STDD Secretary, Comrade Obinna Francis Ogwuegbu since hit the ground running after inauguration has commenced direct implementation and supervision of the strict directive.
It could be recalled that, the Coordinator, Satellite Town Development Department of the FCT, Comrade Obinna Francis Ogwuegbu has earlier embarked on a massive clean up exercise around and within the six area Councils.
During the exercise, the coordinator assured residents of the FCT that the Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello led-FCT administration with the Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu remains committed to ensuring a safer and hygienic FCT for all residents.
The coordinator who added that the exercise would be an ongoing one, appealed to residents, particularly those living in the suburbs to desist from dumping refuse in drainages and by the roadsides.
