The Minister of the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, says the administration has concluded plans to give out an additional fifty vehicles to security agents in the FCT to boost their morale to tackle insecurity and checkmate the activities of scavengers who have constituted security threats in the FCT.
The Minister stated this during a live media broadcast in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Wike hinted that the situation at the moment is far better than what it used to be before the present administration came on board in May 2023.
The minister, who assured residents of the nation’s capital and Nigerians as well as the international communities that the city is safe for their habitat, added that security agents are working day and night to keep the city safe and secure.
Reacting to the earlier directive on beggars to vacate the city center, the minister said some of the beggars not only constitute nuisance but security threats, adding that some of them are even informants.
“I disagree with you that poverty is responsible, professional begging is what is happening. We have security threats and you give excuses for them.
“Some of them are not only informants, but scavengers too. The committee is now working day and night. Next week I will distribute 50 vehicles to security agencies to provide comfort for Abuja residents. We are giving them necessary support to enable them succeed.
“We’re here to fight insecurity to give Abuja residents the comfort they deserve. If Abuja is not safe, then forget Nigeria,” he said.
While giving an insight into the judges homes which construction is ongoing and the criticism in some quarters by some person who tagged it as political Wike said it was not intended to influence them, but only to facilitate the independence of the judiciary.
He further explained that even the homes of the leadership of the National Assembly members were built and maintained by the FCDA and that does not influence them so that of judges is in the same vain.

Wike also called on Nigerians to appreciate the effort being put in place by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration for changing the narrative of governance in the country for good.
He revealed that President Bola Tinubu gave him the opportunity to participate and that the administration has changed the narrative in terms of development.
“People should commend Tinubu and the administration. What was the condition of the city and the rural areas before now. I thank God that Tinubu gave me the opportunity to contribute. Any day I go to the rural area, I feel very happy, yesterday I was in Saburi community, look at the happiness among the people.
“On the Dei Dei to Life Camp road I promised the people that as the Saburi road is delivered in December this year, the Dei Dei – Life Camp would soon pass through the BPP process. Just this morning, BPP sent me an approval which I have forwarded to FEC for approval. In Bwari Ushafa, Military College community, see the joy of the people when we flagged off their road project.”
On transportation system, Wike said after the building of the bus terminals the administration will collaborate with the private sector while all private participants in the Abuja painted taxis would be tracked too.
On politics, Wike challenged his party and the Chairman of the People Democratic Party Governors forum who double as the governor of Bauchi State, Sen Bala Abdulkadir for his inability, capacity and integrity to provide good leadership.
Wike assured Nigerians that next year, they would see the developments that would take place in Abuja.
“We want to show that Abuja has come to stay and a city to stay,” he stated.
