The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Nigeria, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has announced that the FCT Administration (FCTA) is making significant investments in road infrastructure to improve access for underserved communities in the territory.
He made this statement on Thursday during the inauguration of a three-kilometre access road to neighborhoods near Plot 18 in the Giri District of Abuja. The Minister highlighted that the road project will also benefit the site of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Academy, which is located in the area.
He remarked that Giri District has not developed as quickly as other districts due to a lack of access roads and essential infrastructure. Expressing his optimism, he said, “With an access road, everybody will come and develop the area, and that is what we are looking for. Those of you who own plots here will also benefit from the road once it’s completed.”
The Minister expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support of the ongoing infrastructure improvements within the FCT. He mentioned that this road initiative would be among several projects inaugurated to mark Tinubu’s second anniversary in May 2025.
Earlier, Mr. Richard Dauda, the acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), revealed that Levant Construction Ltd. has been contracted to construct the three-kilometre road, which will run from the Bill Clinton Interchange on the Airport Expressway to the EFCC Academy site, with an expected completion time of nine months.
The Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Olanipekun Olukoyede, praised both the president and the Minister, referring to him as a “bulldozer” for his dedication to the road project. Olukoyede, represented by the commission’s Secretary, Mr. Muhammad Hammajoda, expressed appreciation for Wike’s commitment, stating, “You are our stakeholder, and we are proud of you; thank you, thank you, and thank you.”
This access road in Giri District is the third road project launched in the past three days. Just earlier in the week, The Minister inaugurated the construction of a 9.8-kilometre road from Kabusa to Takushara on Tuesday, followed by a 10.5-kilometre road from Kabusa to Ketti on Wednesday.
