FCTA promises infrastructure development in Abattoirs

Authority of the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has reiterated the commitment of the FCT Administration to the provision of quality infrastructure in the various abattoirs of the FCT.

 

The Mandate Secretary, Agriculture and Rural Development in the FCT, Mallam Abubakar Ibrahim gave this assurance during a visit to the Karu Abattoir in continuation of his familiarisation tour of projects under the secretariat.

 

According to him, “Abuja is the face of Nigeria and it imperative that we set good standards in whatever we are doing whether it is services or infrastructure. It should be at par with International standards”. 

 

He called on the veterinary health officials to increase their surveillance activities to ensure that butchers do not use tyres to process meat emphasising the health and environmental risks associated with it.

 

In her response, the Director Veterinary Services Dr.Mrs Regina Adulugba told the Secretary that the Department is working towards the installation of the gas furnaces as the best and safest alternative to the use of tyres.

 

On the issue of abandoned project, he directed the Department of Veterinary Services to convene an urgent meeting with contractors to address the issues towards completing the projects.

 

The visit to the Karu Abattoir which is the largest in the FCT is his second to abattoirs since his assumption to duty within a week.
