The authority of the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTSA), has commenced strategic training on innovation and entrepreneurship education for 187 Vice Principals Academics of FCT Secondary Schools and other stakeholders in the education system within the nation’s capital, Abuja.
While declaring the training open at the Nigeria Building And Road Research Institute (NBBRI), the Mandate Secretary of FCTA Education Secretariat, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, said the initiative is a strategic intervention aimed at equipping educators with the skills, knowledge, and leadership capacity needed to nurture a generation of problem-solvers, innovators, and job creators.
Hayyo noted that as instructional leaders and key drivers of school management, Vice Principals’ Academics play an essential role in ensuring that entrepreneurship education is not just a subject, but a culture embedded in teaching and learning.
He revealed that the participants will engage in insightful and hands-on sessions designed to provide them with the frameworks, tools, and leadership strategies to drive entrepreneurship education in their schools.
According to him, some of the key areas of focus include: understanding entrepreneurship education, leadership for entrepreneurship, curriculum development and oversight, stakeholder engagement, resource mobilization, assessment, and continuous improvement.
“This training is a call to action, and I trust that you will take the lessons learned here and translate them into impactful changes in your schools.
“It is our responsibility as educators and administrators to ensure that our schools do not just prepare students for jobs but empower them to shape the future through entrepreneurship and innovation.
“We must take deliberate and strategic steps to ensure that our education system aligns with this global shift.
“If we succeed in making entrepreneurship education a standard practice in our schools, we will have succeeded in preparing the next generation of leaders, innovators, and nation-builders,” he stated.
The Director/Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board (SEB), Dr. Mohammed Sani Ladan, said they have integrated entrepreneurship education into the curriculum, equipping students with practical skills, critical thinking abilities, and a problem-solving mindset.
He opined that selected secondary schools now have innovation and entrepreneurship clubs, where students engage in practical business simulations, product development, and financial literacy exercises.
“Our collaboration with BRUNEL University, London has further strengthened our approach. These initiatives align with our broader goal of transforming FCT secondary schools into hubs of creativity and economic empowerment,” he said.
On his part, the Director of FCT Science Innovation and Technology, Mr. Kolawole Olobashola, encouraged the trainees to be active, engaged, and open-minded throughout the train-the-trainers program.
Olobashola, who delivered a welcome remark at the event, said “Today marks the beginning of an exciting journey, where we will explore global approaches to Entrepreneurship education, focusing on science, technology, and innovation.”
