The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has unveiled a strategic blueprint aimed at eliminating all forms of crime in the nation’s capital.
The Director of Security Services at the FCTA, Adamu Gwary, emphasised the FCT Minister’s commitment to transforming Abuja into a world-class city. He expressed confidence that once the FCT Central Command and Control Centre is fully operational, the territory will set a new benchmark for security, making it the safest in the country.
The Centre, according to him, will be central to the coordination of all security activities across the territory as it will be responsible for the deployment of technology, provision of security like the use of drones, CCTV cameras, collation of feeds for analysis as well communicating to the appropriate unit that will respond to the particular situation.
Gwary further explained that the significant drop in crime, particularly as it relates to ‘one chance’, kidnapping and vandalism is a result of the renewed confidence the residents have in the current administration with their timely relay of information to the authorities.
“From the time the Minister visited the Area Councils to date, every blessed month, our statistical information about insecurity is dropping. We can beat our chest to say that security has greatly improved beyond even our expectations,” he said.
Gwary added that the minister had also identified the provision of critical infrastructure such as roads to every nook and cranny of the area councils as the easiest measure to be taken towards tackling the insecurity hitherto being experienced by residents.

The provision of the roads across satellite towns and rural communities of the territory in less than one year of the Wike’s administration, he noted, had crippled the criminals as response time to crime spots by law enforcement agents was shortened.
“At that interface, he was made to understand that security is first and foremost. He looked at it from the perspective of providing infrastructure that will bring security closer to FCT residents,” he said.
Gwary also expressed confidence that the ongoing construction of 12 new divisional police stations and a six-unit police staff quarters in the six area councils of the FCT, will be the turning point for the security architecture of the territory.
“We started with nine such facilities, and later, the Minister provided three additional ones so that each Area Council will have two, making a total of 12,” he said.
The timely execution of project, which is vigorously being pursued by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike will ensure the 12 divisional police stations are completed and delivered in May this year.
The Director also gave the distribution of the 12 new divisional police stations as follows: Takushara and Saburi both in AMAC; Yaba and Gawu in Abaji Area Council; Bako and Wako wards, both in Kwali Area Council; Igu and Ushafa, Bwari Area Council; Giri and Dobi for Gwagwalada Area Council as well as Sabo and Chikuku in Kuje Area Council.
