The Federal Executive Council (FEC) will convene a special session on Thursday, July 17, 2025, to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The tribute, set to begin at 5:00 p.m., will be led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
This solemn meeting will provide an opportunity for cabinet members, senior government officials, and close associates of the former President to reflect on and commemorate the life, service, and legacy of the late Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on July 13, 2025, in London.
President Tinubu is expected to lead the session with a formal eulogy, highlighting late Buhari’s decades-long contribution to Nigeria as a military officer, Head of State, and two-term democratically elected President.
Other serving ministers, aides, and key members of the Tinubu administration are also expected to deliver short tributes during the ceremony, sharing personal anecdotes and official reflections on the impact of Former President Buhari’s leadership on national development and democratic stability.
The special session is part of a wider range of national mourning activities organised by the Federal Government to pay tribute to the late former leader.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1984 to 1985 and later as civilian President from 2015 to 2023, was laid to rest in his country home, Daura, Katsina State, following Islamic funeral rites.
