Federal Fire Service is developing new strategies of regulating the activities of departments of fire services across the country.
The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service of Nigeria, Dr Ibrahim Liman stated this during a courtesy call to the Governor of Niger State North central Nigeria, Abubakar Sani Bello in Minna the state capital.
Dr Liman who said they are in Niger state for a retreat added that “we are working on a document on Fire Policy, National Fire Safety Code, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Discipline Regulation for Federal Fire Service”.
Dr Liman said they were working with relevant authorities like the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and others towards having an outpost at the various oil facilities as well as other national assets.
While calling on the people to observe all precautions, especially at this harmattan period to prevent fire out breaks and other related issues, Dr Liman highlighted some of the achievements of the Federal Fire Service since his assumption to office which includes: “Purchasing of 69 fire trucks, 33 water tankers, 22 ambulances, employment of 3000 fire personnel, and training of over 800 fire service personnel among others”.
In his remarks, the Niger state Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, mentioned that his administration is planning to reposition the activities of the fire service to delicate and highly sensitive areas in the state.
He further said his administration has already purchased some useful functional fire service facilities for improvement of the state fire service agency.
