The Federal University Lokoja, Kogi state, north central Nigeria, has graduated 41 students with first-class honours degrees.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, made the announcement in Lokoja, the state capital at the commencement of events to mark the university’s 8th convocation ceremony.
Professor Akinwumi said 461 students earned Second Class Upper degrees, with 974 in Second Class Lower division, while 384 students graduated with Third Class, and 3 with Pass marks.
He added that 1,863 students would receive first degrees, while 117 would earn Diplomas and 216 would be awarded Postgraduate degrees, bringing the total number of graduates to 2,196.
The Vice Chancellor said, “this is a significant moment, not just for the university but for the graduands and their families, as it marks the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance.”
The Vice-Chancellor also announced the National University Commission’s approval of new academic programmes, including LL.B. Law, Doctor of Pharmacy (D. Pharm), and Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS), adding that admissions is underway for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Also, the approval of the full-time delivery of eight academic programmes; Microbiology, Public Administration, Mass Communication, and Statistics, to be offered in affiliation with Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State was issued by the NUC.
The VC also announced the FUL’s collaboration with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, to enhance the university’s postgraduate training.
Professor Akinwumi further announced milestones in infrastructure development at the school’s permanent site, including; the construction of a Senate Building, a Faculty of Engineering, and a state-of-the-art lecture theatre.
