Federal University of Technology Minna Appoints Deputy Vice-Chancellor

The Federal University of Technology, Minna, in Niger State North Central Nigeria has announced the confirmation of the appointment of Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

 

The appointment in a statement by the Information Unit was announced during the 87th meeting of the Appointments and Promotions Committee (A&PC) held on Tuesday, at the Senate Chamber, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.

 

Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed, a distinguished scholar in the field of Civil Engineering, was born on February 28, 1972, in Lapai, Niger State.

His educational journey began at Kobo Primary School, Lapai, from 1977 to 1983, and he continued his secondary education at Muhammadu Kobo Secondary School, Lapai in Niger State from 1983 to 1989.

He graduated with Second Class Honors (Upper Division) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1998 and completed his National Youth Service with Zenith Engineers, Kaduna State from 1999 to 2000.

Prof. Mohammed’s career in academia commenced at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, in the year 2000 as an Assistant Lecturer.

He earned his M.Eng degree in 2003 and later obtained a Ph.D. in Concrete Technology at the University Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia, in 2011, marking an impressive academic journey.

Before he was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Mohammed held various administrative and academic positions within the university, including Level Adviser, Welfare Officer, Project Coordinator, Departmental Project Coordinator, Postgraduate Coordinator, and Head of Department.

He also served as the Director of Academic Planning.

Furthermore, Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed is a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and is registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He has been a valuable resource person to COREN and the National Universities Commission in the resource verification and accreditation of programs at several universities across the country.

Additionally, he has contributed to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) as a member of the selection committee for the overseas scholarship scheme.

Prof. Mohammed’s dedication to research is evident through his over 50 national and international journal publications.

He has also supervised undergraduate, PGD, M.Eng, and Ph.D. students, furthering the academic excellence of the institution.

His appointment as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) is effective as of November 7, 2023, for an initial term of two years.

This development is a testament to his commitment to academic excellence and the continuous growth of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.

In addition to Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed’s appointment, the University has also approved the promotion of 14 new Professors and 19 Associate Professors.

The newly promoted faculty members have shown dedication to their respective fields and will continue to contribute to the growth and development of the university.
