The FCT Emergency Management Agency, (FEMA), has attributed the zero loss of lives to flooding this year in the FCT to the massive support of media through sensitization.

In a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs of the Agency, Nkechi Isa, the Director General of FEMA, Alhaji Abbas Idris announced this when he received the award of the most Responsive Friend of the Media conferred on him by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) at the NTA channel 5 Media Week in Abuja.

Idris appreciated the media for its coverage of the activities of the Agency, particularly the search and rescue efforts.

The DG who was represented by the Acting Director, Forecasting Response and Mitigation, Mrs Florence Wenegieme, said the award was timely and would motivate FEMA to do more to sensitize the nooks and crannies of the FCT.

“We believe in media coverage especially with NTA Channel 5, that has grassroots coverage in 5 local languages and which covers the six area councils. NTA covers our search and rescue operations. FEMA believes in media coverage”.

The FEMA Boss added that the Agency valued the media as a partner in realizing its mandate.
