FG approves CASCADE programme to improve nutrition for women, children

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a programme known as Catalysing Strengthened Policy Action for Healthy Diets and Resilience (CASCADE), implemented by an International NGO, Cooperative Assistance for Relief Everywhere (CARE), and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), with funding from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

CARE Programme Representative, Mr Isaac Ishaya stated this at the inauguration of the exercise in Bauchi state.

According to him, CASCADE is being implemented by CARE and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) with support from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“CASCADE is a four-year programme implemented across six countries: Nigeria, Benin, Mozambique, Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda aimed at strengthening nutrition system to end malnutrition for 1.1 million women of reproductive age and children under five years,” he said.

In Nigeria, the programme was being implemented in Bauchi, Jigawa, Kebbi and Nassarawa.

The programme aims to strengthen nutrition systems that contribute to ending malnutrition for 1.1 million women of reproductive age and children under the age of 5.
