Former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo has been appointed as the Ambassador of the resuscitated National Principal’s Cup.
The appointment is coming few days after the Federal Government appointed another ex-Eagles star and captain, John Obi Mikel as Youths Ambassador.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare announced the appointment on Tuesday when the former Manchester United and Watford star paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Mr. Dare said no fewer than 2700 Secondary Schools across the country will take part in the next edition of the re-introduced National Principal’s Cup.
Ighalo’s role as the competition Ambassador is to travel around the geo-political zones in the country to watch the Principal’s Cup matches, inspire the players, and also help in identifying the hidden skillful talents among the young ones.
With his appointment, Ighalo now joined the likes of Tunde Disu, Segun Odegbami, Daniel Amokachi, Mary Onyali, and others as the Ambassadors of the National Principal’s Cup.
After coming to office, Youth and Sports Minister, Mr. Dare resuscitated the National Principal’s Cup, 27years after the competition was abandoned.
