Fierce Milan Derby Ends In Draw At San Siro
The Milan Derby in the Italian Serie A produced a 1-1 draw between AC Milan and Inter Milan as Hakan Calhanolgu’s penalty opener was cancelled out by a Stefan De Vrij own goal at the San Siro Stadium.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic started up front for the hosts, with Brahim Diaz and Rafael Leao supporting on the flanks. The visitors had Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko in attack.
A penalty was awarded to Inter after Ivorian Frank Kessie brought down Hakan Calhanoglu in the box. The former AC Milan midfielder stepped up and fired the ball into the net to put Inter ahead in the 11th minute.
Six minutes later, AC Milan equalised after putting pressure on Inter. Fikayo Tomori thought he made the decisive touch to send the ball into the net after a free-kick.
However, it was Stefan de Vrij who turned the free-kick into his own net for an own goal.
More drama was to follow in the heated derby when AC Milan defender Ballo-Toure fouled Inter’s Matteo Darmian in the box. The referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot.
Martinez stepped up to take thee penalty. However, goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu saved the Argentine’s penalty to keep the scores at 1-1.
Both sides went into the break tied at 1-1 to end a thrilling first half.
In the second half, Ibrahimovic’s late free-kick was superbly kept out by Samir Handanovic as AC Milan finished strongly but could not get the winner.
Opportunities came for both sides in the second half, however, the match finished 1-1 at San Siro.
AC Milan missed the chance to go top of Serie A after a 1-1 derby draw with Inter Milan which allowed Napoli to stay top of the Serie A table after a 1-1 draw against Hellas Verona.
Neither side will be happy with the point as they both had opportunities to win the match in front of 57,000 fans at the San Siro.
