A Fire outbreak at Laranto market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state has destroyed properties worth millions of naira.

The sad incident occurred around 11 pm on Sunday after businesses had been closed for the day.

Chairman of the market, Idris Shehu, who confirmed the incident told our correspondent that the incident engulfed goods worth millions of naira, adding that the cause of the incident is still unknown.

“About three sections of the market including Timber, second-hand clothes, and furniture were severely affected. Although We can’t ascertain the exact amount of money lost at this moment, the severity of the damage indicates that we have lost millions of naira.”

Commenting on the incident, Umar Alyu, chairman of the Timber section of the market, lamented that if firefighters had arrived on time, the losses would not have reached the level being experienced at the moment.

He said it took the intervention of the Commissioner for Water Resources who arrived at the scene and then called in firefighters from the government house, which eventually extinguished the fire.

“If not for their timely intervention, the incident would have been disastrous,”  he added.
