Fire In China School Dorm Kills 13 Students

A fire in a school dormitory in central China killed 13 students and injured another person, officials said.

Report says the dead were third graders students, who are usually 9 years old. One person rescued from the scene was being treated in the hospital

The fire broke out on Friday night at Yingcai School in Yanshanpu Village, near Nanyang City in Henan province.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and the head of the school was taken into custody, reports said.

Meanwhile, Local authorities said they were investigating the cause of the fire.

Yingcai a private boarding school caters primarily to students in the elementary grades, though it has an attached kindergarten, according to the school’s WeChat page. Many of the boarding students come from rural areas.

The school gives students a break every two weeks but this was not a break weekend, newsmen said, citing several local residents.
