Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for an immediate end to the violence and insecurity affecting Benue State, urging dialogue and unity among citizens.
Speaking during her visit to Makurdi, the state capital, Mrs Tinubu condemned the persistent attacks that have plagued communities in the state for over a decade.
“We must embrace peace and dialogue to stop the senseless killings. Unity and solidarity are our strongest tools against violence,” she said.
As part of her humanitarian outreach, the First Lady donated ₦1 billion to support victims from displaced communities and distributed relief materials aimed at easing their hardship.
She pledged continued support for vulnerable groups, especially children, girls, and persons with disabilities.
The Tor Tiv and Paramount Ruler of the Tiv Nation, Professor James Ayatse, urged the Federal Government to dismantle terror networks operating across Benue and Nasarawa States.
He also called for the reconstruction of destroyed communities and compensation for victims.
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, reiterated his appeal for the creation of a state police force and the formulation of a national ranching policy to curb insecurity linked to herder-related violence.
He commended the First Lady’s visit and solidarity, describing it as timely support for the over 1.5 million displaced persons in the state.
“Your visit shows that Benue is not forgotten. It renews hope and sends a strong message of unity,” the Governor said.
