Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed optimism for a brighter future for the country, urging citizens to support the government and actively contribute to nation-building to drive growth and development.
Mrs Tinubu made the remark in a message to commemorate the 65th Independence anniversary of the nation.
“Are you a politician, asking what your country can do for you or a zealous one, asking what you can do for your country? If you are the first, then you are a parasite, if the second, then you are an oasis in a desert,” she said, quoting from 1925 Essay, “The New Frontier” Gebran Kalil Gebran.
The First Lady also emphasised the need for citizens to always make deliberate efforts to contribute to national development saying:
“My Fellow Citizens, ask not what your country can do for you – Ask what you can do for your country.
“Let us all play our part to build a Nigeria we all want to see. Your sacrifice will never be in vain.
“Happy 65th Independence Anniversary. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she said.
