Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N100m to victims of various disasters in Niger State, through her pet project, the Renewed Hope Initiative, (RHI)
She announced the donation in Minna, the State capital on Tuesday, while on a visit to the State.
Mrs Tinubu who explained that the funds would be disbursed to 70 families at N1m per family while the remaining would be used to get food and other supplies prayed that the State would be free from such occurrences.
She pointed out that though the visit to the State was a private one, the First Lady commended the Governor, Mohammed Bago, of Niger State, for his giant strides especially in the area of Agriculture.
“You have been doing a lot for your state and by extension Nigeria in the area of Agriculture. You should be proud of yourself,” she told the Governor.
On her private visit to Former Military Presidents, retired General Ibrahim Babangida and General Abdulsalami Abubakar, Mrs Tinubu explained that it was to check up on them and their welfare.
“Whatever we do in Abuja will not be complete without coming to them. Ask them how they are faring and seek further advice.
“They are the Patriarchs of this nation,” she said.
In his remarks, the Governor of Niger State, Muhammed Bago thanked the First Lady for her visit to commiserate with the victims of the disaster in the state.
He said the visit speaks volumes about a mother’s love.
The Etsu Nupe , Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, appealed to the First Lady to visit the State to inaugurate more of the RHI programs especially in the area of Agriculture.
The visit by the First Lady in company of the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, was to commiserate with the state on the recent explosion which claimed several lives.
