The National Senior citizens Center, NSCC has set up a help desk for older persons affected by floods in parts of the country.

The Director General of the Centre, Emem Omakaro, said the desk is being set up in Internally Displaced Persons IDPs camps, in partnership with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Development Partners, State Emergency Management Agencies and NSCC Stakeholders Consultative Forum on Ageing.

Worried by the dire situation of flooding in parts of the country, Dr Omokaro said the decision is necessitated by the high proportion of older casualties in the affected areas and the vulnerability of older women and men in such situations in the affected states of the federation.

Dr Omokaro commended the National Emergency Management Agency and States Emergency Management Agencies (SEMA), Development partners, and other organisations for rescue efforts at flood-affected locations despite the challenges faced.

In Delta State, Southern Nigeria where there are over ten camps created, the NSCC help desks are already functional at most camps.

Some of the services rendered at the NSCC help desks for flood-affected older persons are basic health Checks, data capture, and collation of older persons.

The beneficiaries of the gesture have commended the efforts of the National Senior Citizens Centre for coming to their aid in conjunction with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency. (SEMA)
