Flying Eagles Face Egypt in Pre-AFCON Friendly

Nigeria’s seven-time African champions, the Flying Eagles, are set to take on host nation Egypt in a friendly match on Tuesday as part of their preparations for the 2025 U-20 AFCON. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on April 27 in Cairo.

Led by head coach Aliyu Zubairu, the Flying Eagles arrived in Cairo on Sunday with a 24-player squad and nine officials. The team is currently based at Jewel Sports City and Aqua Resort, where they held their first training session on Monday evening.

The friendly match against Egypt’s Young Pharaohs will take place at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday at 5 pm local time (4 pm Nigeria time). This match serves as a warm-up for the Flying Eagles ahead of their AFCON campaign, which begins on May 1 against Tunisia in Group B, where they’ll also face Kenya and Morocco.

The team’s schedule is as follows:

  • May 1: Nigeria vs Tunisia
  • May 4: Nigeria vs Morocco
  • May 7: Nigeria vs Kenya

This friendly match against Egypt is a crucial step in the Flying Eagles’ preparations for the tournament.
