The Nigerian government says it will continue to support cluster farming initiatives to boost food production and end food insecurity in the country.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Sabi Abdullahi, made this declaration during his visit to cluster farms in the Bwari a suburb in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja.

He stated that the government’s approach is targeted at increasing food production through strategic support to farmers.

“We have clusters, and all of these clusters, we’ve been dealing with them. But this is the first time we are coming to see them in the field, and that will continue as we continue to inspire our farmers so that they can continue to farm”.

He also pointed out that despite challenges such as insecurity, significant progress has been made in food production, with witnessing improved farming activities.

The minister acknowledged the rising food prices but assured Nigerians that efforts are underway to address these challenges.

CATCH THEM YOUNG

The minister’s visit also included an inspection of the Young Farmers Club initiative in one of the schools in the nation’s capital which aims to instill agricultural knowledge and interest in younger generations, ensuring the future of food security in the country.

“You remember we partnered with the Office of the First Lady, Her Excellency Oluremi Tinugu, where we looked at the revamping or reinvigoration of the Young Farmers Club in various schools, as a way of catching them young, we should encourage our young ones to understand what is happening while they are in school, and that way they can understand the value of producing food”.
