The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority, FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku says foreign Airlines are owing Nigeria over 18 billion Naira.
Mrs Kuku made the disclosure at the continuation of the House Committee On Finance Financial monitoring with revenue generating agencies, in Abuja.
She said that “Quarta Airlines in 2023 was owing 2.7 billion but now owes 1.5 billion naira.
“Virgin Atlantic, KLM, Egypt Air, Ethiopian Air, Air France, Turkish Airlines, Africa World Airlines and other airlines are owing Nigeria over 18 billion Naira.”
Mrs Kuku said that the balance of December, 2025 is different from that of March, 2026 as some of the operators may have cleared their debts.
The Chairman of the committee, Mr. James Faleke said that, ” Nigeria must recover its money because no Nigerian buys tickets on credit and the airlines have no right to owe Nigeria.”
Members of the committee wondered why FAAN allowed the airlines to owe that much.
Following an appeal by the Managing Director, the committee gave her two weeks to report back recoveries.
The Committee wowed to recover all held funds from the airlines.
The Acting Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET), Mr. Johnson Akinnawo reappeared before the committee and tendered an apology for his behaviour last week.
On the registration of NBET Finance Complete PLC, the representative of the Cooperate Affairs Commission, CAC clarified that it is a new company and not related.
CAC, represented by Mr.Tolulope Shonaike, explained that the law forbids the commission from registering two conflicting companies.
“There was no NBET before this NBET registration,” Shonaike said.
He said that CAC cannot determine what the name of a company chooses to register.
The Chairmen of the House committee on Finance, Mr. James Faleke said that the registration of NBET Finance company was wrong and called for the reversal of the registration.
Other agencies also appeared before the committee.
