Formal Credit Suisse’s CEO,Tidjane Thiam has secured his party’s nomination with 99.5% of the vote, running unopposed to represent the Democratic Party of Ivory Coast in the presidential election this October.
As party president, Thiam faced no challengers and will now vie for the presidency against candidates yet to be announced.
He stepped down from Credit Suisse in 2020 following a corporate espionage scandal; an independent inquiry later cleared him of any involvement.
Incumbent President Alassane Ouattara, who was re‑elected in a disputed 2020 vote marred by violence and an opposition boycott, has hinted he may seek another term. With the October election looming, both men are expected to intensify their campaigns in the months ahead.
