Former Governor Commissions First Private Drug Rehabilitation center in Kano

The first private drug rehabilitation Clinic in Kano state, equiped with the capacity for depression and substance abuse management as well reformatory center has been commissioned in the ancient city.

Former governor of Kano state, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who commissioned the center named “Amana Sanatorium”, located on the Kano – Wudil Federal Highway said the multi-purpose center has the capacity for 1,000 inpatients, especially youths.
He said the youth are playing a significant role in developing the society. Therefore, no meaningful government can neglect this very important section of the society.
He said their social well being and mental health, if properly utilize, can make them to became agents of development in any nation.
“Today the power of the youth is recognized world over and this can be utilize either in constructive or destructive ways by any nation.”
“Some of these youths who have become drug addicts as a result of drug abuse because of failure of family values needed rehabilitation through special care rather than tuture, hence our decision to use our pet project, the Kwankwasiyya Development Foundation ,KDF, to build the Amana Sanatorium which is of international standard, ” said Kwankwaso.
He said there was the need to do away with unothordox way of rehabilitation where drug victims are made more miserable in the name of treatment.
“People with brain problem requires a special care, it’s therefore, heartbreaking that youths are undergoing some difficulty in the guise of rehabilitation,” he emphasized.
He said the clinic has the capacity to handle 144 clients at a go and as much as1,000 inpatients patients as well as services to outpatients patients with consultants, specialty psychiatric doctors and nurses waiting to serve them.
“The centre is also equipped with indoor outdoor sports facilities for mental health growth while being treated and offers opportunity for skills acquisition in modern workshops in the areas of carpentry, Aluminum works, Video making, photography, computer lab among others,” explained the former Governor.
The Kano state commander of NDLEA, said the private rehabilitation center has come to augment the efforts of the federal and state governments as such a welcome development.
The Commissioning of the Rehabilitation center is part of activities marking the 65th anniversary of the former Governor of Kano state, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
