The former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, has advocated for the use of technology in fighting crimes and criminalities in the country.
Arase stated this on Friday at the Police Headquarters , Amawbia Awka, Anambra State,after inspecting the ongoing police recruitment exercise in the state.
Mr. Arase described technology as crucial in modern day policing as there is no amount of police officers that will be enough without complimenting it with technology, calling for a legislation that will compel people who build housing estates, shopping malls among others to install close circuit camera televisions (CCTV) to aid efficient security architecture.
Solomon Arase who is the Chairman, Police Service Commission(PSC), commended the collaboration between the commissioners’ of police and staff of the Police Service Commission (PSC), in the states he has visited.
He noted that the two bodies have forged a formidable collaboration that made the exercise seamless.
The PSC chairman narrated that Nigerians can now see that the police is doing something credible and expressed satisfaction with what he has seen so far.
Arase appreciated the President Bola Tinubu led administration for approving the recruitment of 30,000 personnel to augment what is on ground, but regretted that the number of police officers in the country is still grossly inadequate.
According to the PSC boss, prioritizing the welfare of the officers of the Nigerian police force is another way of motivating them and boosting their morale to do more, even as he maintained that community policing where every stakeholder is brought onboard will help in intelligence gathering, thereby reducing crimes and criminality.
