Former Lawmaker urges politicians to focus on Nigeria’s unity

A former member of the House of Representatives, Abuja, Hon. Moshood Mustapha has implored politicians to focus more attention on the unity of Nigeria and not allow the desperate struggle for power to further divide the nation as a united entity.

According to him, as Nigeria moves towards the 2023 elections, the citizens, particularly political office seekers should consider the future of the country and do not see taking over power or retaining office as a do or die affair, but rather the corporate oneness and development of the country.

Hon. Mustapha sounded this note of caution when he presented N10m cash donations to various groups in Ilorin Emirate as part of his efforts to give back to his constituent.

The former lawmaker who donated five million Naira to the Ilorin Emirate Durbar Committee for the success of this year’s durbar celebration, two million to the maintenance of the Ilorin Central Mosque, one million Naira to Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressives Union, IEDPU , one million naira to Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association IEYDA and another one million Naira to the Emirate football team for durbar urged the people of Ilorin Emirate to be more united.

Moshood who is the Oluomo of Yoruba in Ghana disclosed that his various donations have no political colouration or anything to do with politics more so that the party primaries across the country has been concluded and he did not contest for any elective position.

According to him, rather his guesture is for the love he has for his people and to support the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu – Gambari in further bringing the people of the emirate under one umbrella and sustaining the long time culture and traditions of the people.

He called on other indigenes of the Ilorin emirate to support the durbar programme and other activities of the emirate and pledged to do more.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Durbar committee, Engineer Yahaya Alapansapa, had thanked Hon Moshood Mustapha for his donations and urged other citizens of the emirate to emulate him.

Engineer Alapansapa who is the Danmasani of Ilorin highlighted the history of durbar celebration in the Northern states of the federation, adding that, that of Ilorin is unique, as it showcases the rich culture and traditions of the people and not just horse riding.

According to him, the Ilorin Emirate Durbar was initiated by the Emir of Ilorin to further foster unity and progress of the people of the community.

He urged all sons and daughters of the emirate and friends of the community across the globe to come home and donate generously towards the success of the programme.

Alapansapa said this year’s durbar would be more elaborate as various international agencies and UNESCO have been contacted for their presence to be felt.

The yearly durbar which is aimed at promoting the age long royal culture of the Ilorin Emirate in North Central Nigeria is scheduled to hold on the second day of Eid- el- Kabir festival at the forecourt of the Emir of Ilorin.
