The former governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Nwabueze Ngige, has gifted bags of rice, yams and cash to citizens of 326 wards in the 21 Local Government Areas of Anambra State.

Ngige, who shares palliatives annually to Anambra people made the distribution in Alor, his country home in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

“Previously, we provided 2,000 bags of rice, this time it increased to 4,500 bags with yams because lots of homes and people are hungry and I do not want to call it poverty. More homes are in dire need of food occasioned by flood and banditry.”

Ngige said there was sharp increase in quantity of palliatives distributed at the occasion, as compared to previous years, following prevailing economic hardship among the citizenry.

“Last farming season, most Nigerian farmers were victims of banditry and flooding. Food producing areas of Anambra State were affected and more of our party people (APC) fell into that category, so we have three categories of the people we are catering for; APC members, people living with disabilities and the elderly from the 21 Local Government Areas of Anambra State.”

He disclosed that quitting public service would not pose hindrance to his benevolent disposition, saying he was already wealthy before becoming a Minister.

“We heard that people said since I am no longer Minister, I won’t have the mind to perform the annual ritual. It is not true. I was wealthier before I became minister.

“If we are to declare our assets publicly before and after we became ministers, people will know what I am talking about. What I left in the private world before coming into government is bigger.”

The former minister who stressed that victory was not won on platter of gold but with extra hard work, affirmed that he is in charge of APC 1 in Anambra State.

“There is APC one and two in Anambra State.I won’t deny that. I am the father and face of APC here in Anambra State. I know for certain that we have new comers who have been coming since the year 2021and because the party is like a church, you don’t stop people from entering a church to seek salvation, so also you cannot stop people from entering a party to support government in power.

“We allow everybody but there is a segregation already because the new members don’t want to reckon with the old members who have laboured for the party from the time we were SDP to ADC, AC to ACN and then finally birthed as APC. These are facts, and I don’t like denying things are facts.”

Ngige, former governor of the state expressed confidence in the party clinching victory in the 2025 governorship election.

Ngige said, “Don’t worry for us, this is politics and in politics you disagree to agree. One day, if you don’t agree, you bear the consequences. We didn’t agree in 2021 election and the result was clear in Anambra State.

“But it will be remedied this time. Party leadership both at the governmental level and party levels are mature politicians who are well versed with the intrigues.

“I am optimistic that APC will take over in Anambra come 2025 for if you are not optimistic in life, then you go and commit suicide. So, optimism is with us. It is our watchward in APC. We have not done what we are supposed to do here but am hopeful and optimistic in between now and 2025, when the election will hold, we will put our house in order.”

The former minister who promised to distribute more food items like bags of garri and cartons of tomatoes to citizens next week, said, “I am still on sabbatical leave, resting and by the end of May this year, when I would have rested for one year, I will decide and publicize my next line of action.”

Ngige urged Nigerians to support the regime of President Tinubu for a better Nigeria.

On his part, Chief George Chidubem Moghalu, the former managing director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), appreciated Dr Chris Ngige for his good deeds.

He also gave credence to President Tinubu’s government and called on Nigerians to support the APC led government.

Representatives from the 21 Local Government Areas thanked Dr Ngige and promised to appropriately distribute the food items and cash to their people.
