By Nura Mohammed, Minna
Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has commended the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, describing him as a model for effective leadership and human-centered development.
Speaking at the 60th birthday celebration of Bishop Idahosa Isaac Odiri, former NNPP vice-presidential candidate, in Lagos, Kwankwaso praised Bago’s commitment to initiatives that directly impact the lives of citizens, particularly in education, agriculture, and youth empowerment.
He lauded the governor’s recent initiative to sponsor young Nigerians abroad for science-related courses, describing it as a visionary step that will contribute to national development.
“Governor Bago’s leadership style is commendable. His focus on education, agriculture, and youth empowerment will not only move Niger State forward but also contribute significantly to the nation’s progress,” Kwankwaso said.
He urged Bago to remain steadfast in his efforts, emphasising that investment in young people was the most valuable legacy a leader could leave.
“If you continue on this path, investing in young people and prioritizing their future, they will remember and appreciate your contributions,” he stated.
Kwankwaso also stressed that good governance transcends party affiliations.
“You don’t have to be in my party for me to acknowledge your achievements. Leadership is about service, and when you are doing well, it deserves recognition,” he said.
Recalling their previous discussions, Kwankwaso noted that even before assuming office, Bago sought insights from his tenure as Kano State governor, particularly in education, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
“Two years down the line, I can confidently say that Governor Bago has excelled. I urge other governors to learn from his approach and prioritize impactful governance that improves lives,” he stated.
Addressing the perception that leadership is about wealth accumulation, Kwankwaso emphasised that true leadership was measured by impact.
“Many think leadership is about amassing wealth, but real leadership is about making a difference. Governor Bago is proving this with his achievements in a short time,” he added.
The event in Lagos, brought together dignitaries from various sectors who gathered to celebrate Bishop Idahosa Isaac Odiri and discuss the role of leadership in national development.
