Former President Muhammadu Buhari has been laid to rest at his hometown in Daura, Katsina State, following funeral prayers and interment attended by numerous dignitaries led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The body was lowered into the ground at 5.50 pm in his residence.
The burial, which took place according to Islamic rites, was attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Yemi Osinbajo, state governors, current and former ministers, ambassadors, and captains of industry and other top dignitaries.

Also present were international leaders, including President Mahamat Déby of Chad, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau, Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine of the Republic of Niger, and former President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger.
The Janaza prayer was conducted by the Chief Imam of Daura, Sheikh Salisu Rabi’u.
The late statesman’s corpse was led into the graveyard by the military, where Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, read his citation.

The state funeral was marked by full military honours, including a reveille and a 21-gun salute. A weeklong programme of events will continue later on Tuesday with a condolence visit to President Buhari’s family by the Presidential Committee.

Many of the dignitaries paid glowing tributes, describing Buhari as a man of simplicity, integrity, discipline, and unwavering patriotism.
They recalled his long years of service to the nation, from his youth as a soldier to his role as President.
The former president’s remains arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina on Tuesday, 15th July 2025.
The late president’s remains were flown into the country from London, where he died on Sunday, July 13, at the age of 82, following a brief illness.
