The Borno Elders Forum has called for the deployment of a special brigade of retired security officers to support ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and other criminal activities across the country.

The call was made by the Secretary of the forum, Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio, during the pull-out and retirement ceremony of ACP Ibrahim O. Mohammed of the Borno State Police Command, held in Maiduguri.

Dr. Gubio lamented that thousands of highly trained security personnel from various services remain idle after retirement while insecurity continues to escalate nationwide.

“Many of these seasoned officers are confined to their homes, even as criminality rages across the country. They should be properly organised and called upon, when necessary, to assist our security agencies in addressing these challenges,” said Dr. Gubio.

He noted that countries such as the United States, China, and Japan routinely draw on the expertise of retired security officers, urging Nigeria to adopt a similar approach.

Dr. Gubio, who is also the Chairman of the Borno State Civil Service Commission, commended Assistant Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Mohammed, popularly known as AC Crack, and the entire Borno State Police Command for their sustained efforts in the fight against terrorism in the state over the past 16 years.

Earlier, the Borno State Police Commissioner, CP Hafiz Abdul-Majid, represented by his Assistant, ACP Ahmed Muhammad Bello, commended ACP Ibrahim Mohammed for his resilience and dedication throughout his career, urging the police in the state to remain vigilant and committed to their duties.

In his remarks, ACP Mohammed expressed gratitude to God for the wisdom and strength to serve the nation throughout his career.

He also thanked the Borno State Police Command and the people of Borno State for their support.

The ceremony was organised by the Borno State Police Command in honour of ACP Mohammed Ibrahim, who retired after 35 years of service.
