Rangers international Football Club Foundation has advocated for the provision of multi-Sports activities  in schools to promote mass participation and development of pupils and students.

The chairman of the foundation, Ebere Amaraizu, made the call  during a formal presentation of sets of footballs by the  foundation to students of Mater Carmeli College,  Akpuoga-Nike, Enugu State, on Saturday.

A tournament chess board was also presented by Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation to the management of the school.

The chairman said  that the benefits of multi-sports activities and participation, especially by children and youths cannot be overemphasised in their overall development.

According to Amaraizu, introducing multi-sports activities will help to expose children and youths to the knowledge of many sporting events.

It will also improve their cognitive, affective and psychomotor abilities, sharpen their skills and help create a broad range of skills amongst them.

“It provides an environment for a wider social interaction with diverse groups of people in different sports; thereby, fostering a sense of belonging and community cohesion.

“This will lead to team work skills which are valuable life skills beyond the sporting arena to other social endeavours,” he said.

Amaraizu said that participation in multi-sports activities would help to expose them to many sporting options for ease of selection.

For instance a chess player can play soccer using the tactics leanrtnt  from  chess,  such as strategic thinking, creative mindset and strategic planning and making choices (options),” he said.

Amaraizu  disabuse the mindsets of children and young persons who  think that certain sports were for male folk only.

The Principal of the School, Sis. Anthonia Ochike, thanked the foundation for the knowledge impacted on the students.

We are grateful for reaching out to us. We appreciate the various gift items donated to the school as well,” she said.

Onyekachi Madu, student of the school, thanked the foundation and its partner for enlightening the students on how to have a balanced and positive social life-style through sporting activities.
