A Non-Governmental Organisation named Amen Health Care and Empowerment foundation, has begun free screening of Breast and Cervical cancer for 200 women in Gombe State.

Flagging off the ceremony in Gombe Local Government Council, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Habu Dahiru, described the intervention as timely, considering the increase in cases of cancer in the world.

Dr. Dahiru said early detection of cancer was important because it was easier to treat; otherwise, it becomes hard to treat by the time symptoms appear and spread.

“The programme is a laudable Initiative because it will go a long way in preventing Cervical and breast cancer among our women by improving early detection,” he said.

Dr. Dahiru said the Amen Care and Empowerment Foundation had been doing a lot in Gombe State, calling on other organisations to emulate it.

The Assistant Programme Officer of Amen Health Care and Empowerment Foundation, Malama Hauwa Yuguda, said the programme targeted 200 women beneficiaries and emphasised the importance of the screening.

Malama Hauwa said the essence of the screening was to detect the disease or condition early, to increase the chances of survival.

The Chairman of Gombe Local Government Council, Alhaji Aliyu Usman, assured women in the local government of more meaningful programmes to improve their wellbeing.
