The founder of Miranda Asheazi Ombugadu Foundation, (MAO), Mrs Miranda Ombugadu, has distributed one hundred and fifty thousand wrappers to vulnerable women in Nasarawa State.
Mrs. Ombugadu gave the wrappers at an event organized to mark International Women’s Day in the Akwanga Local government area of the state.
She said the gesture is to Illuminate the path towards inclusive and equitable societies, fostering the economic empowerment of women and girls.
“Considering the present state of the Nation, I, therefore sympathize with women for what they are going through”, she noted.
She further remarked that Nigeria’s economy would be stronger if attention was given to programs towards the inclusion of women in governance.
Speaking at the event, the First Female Fifa Referee in Nasarawa State Miss Felicia Obile called on the government at all levels to continue to initiate policies aimed at eliminating cultural and traditional barriers to allow more women to participate in sports.
Miss Obile stated that the rate of women’s participation in sports had continued to remain low, especially in the northern parts of the country due to societal impediments and a lack of support.
Miss Felicia Obile noted that most young girls across communities in Nigeria are endowed with various skills in sports but could not come out to identify themselves as a result of wrong perceptions and taboos.
The Woman referee further called on groups and well-to-do individuals to invest their resources in developing sports talents especially young girls at the grassroots to enhance their economic standard.
The high points of the event include the distribution of food and non-food items to the vulnerable including widows and aged women.
