A foundation led by a former military chief has endorsed Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, calling his appointment a “judicious selection” by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The TY Buratai Humanity Care Foundation, whose Grand Patron is former Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Retired), issued a formal letter of congratulations to General Musa following his recent Senate confirmation.
In the letter, Foundation Chairman Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani praised General Musa’s “exemplary record of service,” citing his “gallantry, unwavering dedication, and strategic insight” within the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The foundation expressed confidence that the new minister’s experience would be vital in strengthening national defence amid persistent security threats.
Also, Buratai, through the foundation, commended the President for his “discerning choice,” noting that the swift Senate confirmation reflected a shared commitment to national security.
“Under General Musa’s stewardship, we are optimistic that the Ministry of Defence will effectively confront existing security threats, thereby fostering renewed hope and stability in the nation,” the statement read.
The appointment of a serving senior military officer to the political role of Defence Minister is seen by some analysts as a strategic move to ensure operational synergy.
The foundation’s statement concludes with prayers for General Musa’s success, hoping for a tenure that “would elevate Nigeria’s security and overall welfare.”
General Musa now assumes leadership of the defence portfolio, with his appointment generating expectations for a recalibrated approach to Nigeria’s complex security landscape.
